Thomas Burke,

70, died September 29, 2017 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born and raised in Indianapolis, the son of Florence and James Burke, the youngest of five children. Tom graduated from the University of Dayton, where he met Joan, his wife of 47 years. His career was in banking but his passion was carpentry. Family was important to him and he spent many years researching the family tree. He enjoyed traveling abroad, cooking Italian dishes and reading mysteries. Thomas Burke,

70, died September 29, 2017 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born and raised in Indianapolis, the son of Florence and James Burke, the youngest of five children. Tom graduated from the University of Dayton, where he met Joan, his wife of 47 years. His career was in banking but his passion was carpentry. Family was important to him and he spent many years researching the family tree. He enjoyed traveling abroad, cooking Italian dishes and reading mysteries. Little Flower Catholic Church held a special place in his heart. He was an active lifelong member and served in different capacities over the years. He was also highly involved with Habitat for Humanity, participating in local builds as well as traveling to and assisting areas in need. He is survived by his wife Joan (Stell), children Christine Shea (Patrick), Gregory Burke, Kathleen Hrabovsky (Eric), and grandchildren Anna, Emily, Rowan and Maxwell. Other survivors include: brother Jim Burke (Barbara) and sisters Billie Stubbs, Maureen Piontek and Patty Burke. A special thanks to Dr. Natraj Reddy Ammakkanavar, all the healthcare and hospice staff of Community Hospital East, and family and friends that helped him through his journey. Visitation will be held at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary, 1307 North Shadeland Ave. on Thursday, October 5, from 4 - 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Little Flower Catholic Church on Friday, October 6 at 10 am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
